Days Until International Coffee Day
Days until International Coffee Day
About International Coffee Day
October 1 was designated by the International Coffee Organization, with the first officially coordinated global observance held in 2015, promoting fair trade and sustainable coffee production and celebrating coffee as a beverage worldwide.
Several countries had separately observed their own national coffee day on different dates before the international date was coordinated, and some of those national observances continue alongside the internationally recognized date.
Brazil and Vietnam together account for a large share of the world's coffee production, and both have separately observed their own earlier national coffee-related dates predating the internationally coordinated one.
Ethiopia is widely credited by most historical accounts as coffee's original region of cultivation, according to a popular (though only partly verifiable) legend involving a goat herder noticing his goats' energized reaction to a certain berry.
The International Coffee Organization, which coordinates the day, also tracks and publishes global coffee price and production data used throughout the coffee trading industry.
